    • CATS WONT ANSWER TO THEIR NAMES.

Wrong. They will answer if they feel like it and if you make it worth their while. You should choose a name for your new cat very early in the relationship. Use it when feeding her and when talking to her; she will soon learn to answer to it.

    • CATS STEAL.

Well yes - they do fully understand the concept of self-service. You should not leave meat, fish, or any other attractive food out on the counter. If you must leave out, make sure it is very securely covered. Claws and teeth are not deterred by a plastic bag.

    • CATS CAN READ YOUR MIND.

Maybe! - but why worry , they are not going to sell your secrets to the weeklies! Actually, their apparent mind-reading is more likely experience plus simple observation of your habits. Remember, to your cat you are a prime source of interest and entertainment.

    • CATS ARE NOT AFFECTIONATE

Not so - Cats can be very affetionate. Of course, there are variations from one cat to another but, generally, a cat who is treated with affection will respond in the same way.

    • CATS DON'T LIVE LONG.

Actually, well cared-for cats commonly live into their teens and occasionally, to twenty years of age or over. Of course, in order to enjoy its maximum potential life-span a cat has to have a good home with a proder diet, lots of affection and veterinary attention when she is ill ....and some luck.

    • CATS ARE KILLERS.

Unfortunately they do kill birds and other small wildlife - but that is the hunting intinct present in felines of every size, from the Bengal tiger down to your domestic 'pussin'. You just have to resign yourself to removing the remains - usually from under the bed or sofa as cats take their prey where they feel safest.
